Childcare survey: results

Aug. 30, 2014 by Tom Eastman

Five weeks ago we asked you all to fill out a survey to gauge interest in childcare at Kiwi PyCon 2014.

The responses were unanimously positive. Childcare is absolutely a welcome and desired addition to Kiwi PyCon and, indeed, to tech conferences in general.

So with that unambiguous result we set to work to see if we could make it happen. We began making inquiries of organizations both for provision of and sponsorship for childcare.

The bad news is that, this year, the stars have not worked out in our favour: we do not have the financial resources to provide childcare at this year's Kiwi PyCon. We are deeply apologetic to those of you who replied to the survey and especially those for whom childcare would be essential in order for them to attend.

The silver lining, however, is that we all recognize the clear value in providing this service. We are still convinced that this is a good and vital idea for technology conferences in general, and especially for Kiwi PyCon. We will continue trying to make childcare a fixture at future conferences.
